Why the 'Friends' Cast Left the Late Matthew Perry's Emmys Tribute in 2024

Friends of the group are still mourning the death of actor Matthew Perry.

When the 2024 Emmy Awards honored Perry by playing Friends during Memoriam Segment, Jennifer Aniston, Courteny Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc were absent from the crowd.

The Recording Academy told a Hollywood reporter on Tuesday that the group was not normally invited.

"It's still fresh for them," executive producer Jeanne Rouzan-Clay explained.

Although the EP considered sending invitations to the remaining five friends, "for their part, they are mourning someone who is still close to them."

Congressman Jesse Collins said: "I can not speak for them, but we must all respect them as their own family. It may be too soon. ”

Perry, who died tragically on October 28, 2015, at the age of 54, was honored at the annual In Memoriam ceremony on Monday.

The section also pays tribute to other stars who have been missing over the past year, including Andre Braugher, Len Goodman, Barbara Walters, Lance Reddick, Paul Reubens and Kirsty Alley.
