Kelly Clarkson spills why she decided to move to New York City

Kelly Clarkson has recently shared why she moved to New York City.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the singer said: “I was very unhappy in LA and had been for several years. I needed a fresh start.”

"We told NBC, 'I'm not trying to sound ungrateful; I just can't stay here any longer for my sanity; and for my kids.' They weren't doing well either," the 41-year-old noted.

Kelly explained: "I was just showing up and smiling and doing what I had to do. But you can just compartmentalize until you break down."

The American Idol alumna opened up that the film "proved to be the right choice" for her family.
