King Charles III, heir to the throne for 70 years, is highly unlikely to abdicate anytime soon, given that the decision to do so could fuel an anti-monarchy campaign.
Charles, 75, held a crucial meeting with William and Kate after Queen Margrethe II faced strong calls to hand over the crown to the heir to the throne following Denmark's decision to abdicate in favor of her eldest son they are called.
A royal statement said Kate's husband William did not want his father taken back.
"The Prince of Wales doesn't want his father to abdicate either. He wants to continue reigning until the right time. William is the real strength of the king," the source said.
Britain is expected to have King Charles crowned in May 2023 at a cost of £100 million (about $126 million).
The king’s early resignation would have created a golden opportunity for anti-royal campaigns to portray the institution as a waste of money.
